Why most designers don’t share product links

Have you ever wondered why most interior designers don’t “link” products from their projects?

  1. To protect our client’s investment:

As designers, our clients hire us to create and curate one-of-a-kind designs for their space, manifesting in both selections for construction as well as furnishing procurement and styling. By “linking” products that were sources specifically for a custom client and making them available to the public, it disrespects the investment that the client entrusted us with and compromises the integrity of the designer-client relationship.

  2. To protect our value:

Another reason most designers will. not link products is to protect the integrity and value of interior design as a service. Just because we may have the ability to share a link quickly, does not mean that the time, effort and expertise that went into sourcing and curating those products happened quickly on the designer’s end. Interior design is a luxury service with the intent to create thoughtful, functional, curated spaces; not to be a personal shopper.

  3. Many items are custom:

Many pieces may be truly custom and a one-of-a-kind creation for our client; either a custom fabric, finish or “from-scratch” design with a fabrication and aren’t available via retail sources, so there genuinely isn’t a link to share. This is one of the many reasons why a designer is valuable and should be viewed as an investment. We have built a catalog and relationships over years and years with trusted, quality vendors and manufacturers to curate unique outcomes for our clients.
