FAQs
Pre-Project
-
Working with a designer can be a new experience for many people. Our end goal is to make sure you have an exceptional experience as we manage the many responsibilities and decisions that are required to build the home of your dreams.
For a successful Designer-Client relationship, trust is required. As the client, you are hiring us as the expert to give you a high quality, custom product whether that be a new home, new furnishings or both.
While our process is fairly collaborative, our best design outcomes are born when our clients come with an open mind and are willing to trust our guidance due to our experience and expertise. If you are someone who needs to have a controlling hand in every little detail, that’s okay! But working with a designer may not be something that is well suited for you.
We will do everything in our power throughout the process to clearly communicate our vision, the cost of anything you are approving, and what to expect as far as timeline goes.
-
We are located in Nashville, TN and primarily serve clients locally, however, we are open to projects throughout the United States.
-
Our ideal client would bring us in as soon as they have the preliminary plans from their architect. We prefer to be involved early in the design process and review the plans for you, as we believe the design process is a marathon, not a sprint.
This review process typically involves us “red-lining” or marking-up the plans with suggested changes to layout, door swings, exterior elevation details etc. to ensure your home flows in a way that will FEEL GOOD to you and the way you live. In our experience, no matter how beautiful you make a space, if the floor plan does not function to serve you and your lifestyle, it is not going to be a home you will love for years to come.
A solid, functional and well thought out floor plan is absolutely key to a successful end product.
-
To inquire about working with us, please fill out the form on the “Become a Client” page on our website to give us as much detail as possible about you and what you are hoping to accomplish. Please understand that projects will be accepted at our discretion, depending on our current availability and capacity, as we want to ensure we are able to give you our full attention and best work.
During The Project
-
During the design process, you will be involved and give final approval for any decision made. You can sit back, relax and let us handle the gathering of ideas, concepts, and design details to present to you as needed within the timeline of the project. Our process ensures that we make decisions ahead of when they are needed for construction, so we stay ahead of any long lead times and avoid construction delays.
We will stay in regular contact with your builder and will frequently visit the site to ensure that our designs are being installed as intended. Throughout the process, we will share any information and specifications with your contractor that they would need to bring the design vision to life. All that is required from you is an open mind, feedback and/or approval on the items we share with you throughout the process, and confidence in us to manage your project well.
If you are a client who is also requiring furniture procurement, we will manage all of the orders for your furniture, rugs, accessories etc., and make sure everything arrives, in the correct finish and size, and undamaged. We will schedule the warehouse for delivery to you once your space is ready to receive furnishings, and we will be onsite directing the delivery team and placing everything exactly where it is intended to go.
-
The design process can take anywhere from 1-2+ years depending on the scope and size of the project. Throughout that time frame, the process would include everything from initial architectural review and planning alongside your architect, all interior selections necessary for construction, project management and collaboration with your builder to bring the vision to life, on-site walkthroughs for framing, electrical, and trim specifications, as well as any additional walkthroughs needed to move the project forward, to furnishing and accessorizing your space to be move-in-ready.
-
Every project is different and the cost of your project will hinge greatly on its size, timeline, and level of finishes desired. Once you have filled out the new client inquiry form, we will be able to give you a more accurate estimate of what to expect as far as cost for design fees once we can fully understand the scope of work your project requires.
-
We source our product through a large collection of “To-the-trade-only” vendors. We visit furniture markets (such as High Point, NC or Atlanta, GA) regularly to see the product in person, feel and test the quality, sit in various upholstery items to ensure a top level of comfort, and familiarize ourselves with any product we would specify for your home.
Rest assured that any piece we recommend to you has passed our quality test, as we want to source the best product for our clients. These markets are open to design professionals (trades) only, so while we would love to have you join us, we will need you to trust in our expertise and guidance with any pieces we recommend.
We will always describe each piece as accurately as possible and will provide samples of fabrics and finishes whenever available so you always have a clear understanding of what you are purchasing.
-
You are more than welcome to shop for items for your home on your own, however we do not offer furniture procurement services from retail vendors. We have great relationships with our vast list of “To-the-trade-only” vendors well and can vouch for their quality, which we cannot always do with retailers.
Additionally, we have found it most efficient if either we source all furniture from our vendors OR the client sources all furniture from retail vendors. Due to the overwhelming amount of time it can take to try a hybrid version, mixing and matching retail and wholesale options, we do not offer a hybrid service.
If you are working with us to source furniture, we prefer to manage the entirety of the product procurement, specifying and ordering process with the best interest of the project flow, and use of your time and money in mind.
-
Custom furniture is made-to-order, meaning it can often be sized to the specific needs of the space, and we can select our own finishes and fabrics. With stock furniture, the fabric and finish has already been specified by the manufacturer and produced within those specifications - likewise, size and finish options are limited. As a result, stock product (while still a great option in many cases) doesn’t offer the same unique feel that a custom piece can bring to a space.
To be clear, stock furniture does not always mean “available immediately”. We will always clarify the lead time on product as we are suggesting it to you if it is clear to us that the product is backordered and will not be available by your install date.
-
Unfortunately due to the events of 2020 and the year following, our industry and many others are still feeling the effects of the strain that the pandemic placed on the supply chain. Some large furniture pieces (especially if fully custom) are taking 4-6 months for production, shipping and handling.
We will do everything in our power to order product early on in the process so that the bulk of your product has arrived by the time construction is finished so you can move in and live comfortably in a finished house.
Please understand that there are occasionally factors out of our control that may delay shipping or production ETA’s past what was originally stated, due to the ongoing global supply chain issues.
-
“Shipping” (or freight) charges are incurred when an item travels from the manufacturer/vendor to our receiving warehouse. These fees will always be included in the “price” of the item that we quote to you.
“Delivery” charges are incurred when the delivery team brings the items from our receiving warehouse and installs them in your home.
Additional “Warehousing Fees” are incurred for any items that have arrived at the warehouse, have been inspected by the warehouse team, and are stored there for safe keeping until the time of delivery. These warehousing fees will be clearly explained and broken down in our initial proposal, so you will always know what to expect.
-
We require that any product or merchandise purchased for your project through CG Studio is shipped to our commercial receiving warehouse. Our warehouse team are trusted professionals who unpack and inspect every item, note damage so we can file a claim for a replacement at no cost to you, and safely store until installation day. This protects you and CG Studio from any issues with vendors providing a replacement if the item is received by a client and not inspected properly.
For larger items, our freight partners also require a loading dock for delivery of the product from the vendor. For these reasons, many vendors require that their pieces are shipped to a receiving warehouse rather than to a private residence.
We also prefer to have all of your items delivered and installed together so that the full vision of the space can come to life at once. We want your first impression of your space to be one of a finished and cohesive design, which is preferable to seeing individual items arrive over time.
-
CG Studio requires clients to vacate the space for any deliveries/furniture installs for a couple of reasons. First, our delivery team is often made up of multiple members who will spend the entire day moving items that are often very heavy. By removing our clients and their families from the space while an installation takes place, this protects our client and also the liability of our delivery team.
Additionally, we often install an entire home’s worth of furniture which is no small feat. Giving the space entirely to our delivery team ensures that they can work as efficiently as possible to get your product installed in your home and ready for use.
CG Studio also requires construction to be 100% complete before we will move furniture into a space. Again, this is to protect you and the investment you have made in the product that will go into your home. If we install furniture and it is damaged due to ongoing construction, there is nothing we can do to obtain a replacement that would be free of charge to you.
We respect the money you have spent and want to protect the investment as a reflection of that respect.

Yes! If there is anything else you have a question about, please send us an email, DM on Instagram, or include it when you fill out your new client questionnaire.
We will be sure to answer you directly, and will also update our FAQ page so it can be helpful to others.
Our goal is to ensure that you have an exceptional experience as we manage the responsibilities and decisions that are required to build the home of your dreams.
